As of 1824, he was made a full Academician. Bugayevsky-Blagodarny was particularly well known for his portraiture, including his well known portraits of Borovikovsky, now in the collection of the Tretyakov Museum, as well as his portrait of Field Marshal Kutuzov from 1813.
