In the same year, on his first trip to Paris, he met with Signac and the students of the "Académie Julian". In 1903-04 he was the student of Lovis Corinth in Berlin. From 1904-09 he studied at the Art Academy in Weimar under Hans Olde, was a student of Ludwig von Hofmann, and also formed a friendship with Hans Arp, Henry van der Velde and Edvard Munch.
