He later pursued a career in dance in California before returning to New Orleans in the 1980s. Cook established an art studio in Central City, his childhood neighborhood, where he collects found objects from the streets to incorporate into his artworks. These objects symbolize social and environmental neglect, as well as hope for the revitalization of his community.
