Next to sculpture, Schmettau created installations and various projects for public spaces and participated in numerous exhibitions. His works are in many collections, including the Karl Ernst Osthaus Museum Hagen, Kunstmuseum Bonn, Berlin Gallery and New National Gallery in Berlin as well as the Wilhelm Lehmbruck Museum Duisburg.
