Johann Heinrich Tischbein was a German portrait painter born in 1722 in Haina, Germany. He was appointed court painter by Landgrave Wilhelm VIII of Hesse-Kassel in 1752 and later became a professor at the Kassel Collegium Carolinum in 1762 and director of the Academy there in 1776.
