A landscape painter and muralist in the Boston area, Jonathan Fairbanks, in 1971, founded the Department of American Decorative Arts and Sculpture at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. From that time until 1999 when the Department was merged with another department, Fairbanks was full Curator.
