A student of both the RDS Drawing School and the Cork School of Art, Joseph Poole Addey later became the first Head Master of the Londonderry School of Art. In the latter half of his life he lived mostly in Dublin, working as a tutor to students of the Dublin Metropolitan School of Art. He often took outdoor sketching classes at Rathfarnham Castle during the summer holidays. According to Theo Snoddy, Addey "could not comprehend how anyone would be unable to copy accurately, with pencil, a simple object". In the last years of his life he... Read full biography
