Julian Klein von Diephold was born in Dusseldorf, Germany in 1868 and died in Norderney, Germany in 1947. After studying at the Düsseldorf Academy of painters Julian went to the Netherlands and to Paris. Since the 1890s until 1914 he lived mostly in Italy, from 1910-14 near Genoa. He devoted himself particularly to landscape and genre pictures. Soon after the Second World War, he discovered Ostfriesland as a new home.
