After deciding to paint full-time, Gallagher exhibited her work at various galleries in Glasgow and had her first solo exhibition in London in 1989 at Portland Gallery. Known for her striking still lifes with rich colors reminiscent of S J Peploe's style, Gallagher's work was well-received despite not being a prolific artist.
