At 19 he enrolled in college to study Petroleum Studies, but was later drafted into the Army to serve in the Iraq - Iran War. He continued to paint during his military service and was awarded a placement to study art in Britain from the Ministry of Education in Baghdad. In 1983 he began a language and art foundation course at Southampton and was then accepted for a degree in Fine Art at Duncan Jordanstone College of Art in Dundee. In 1987 he was granted a place at Hospitalfield in Arbroath, and it was here that he established his passion for the east coast of Scotland, with its dramatic scenery,... Read full biography
