He became a candidate for the USSR Union of Artists in 1957 and a member of the USSR Artists' Union in 1964. He helped organize the Magadan Artists' Union and became director of the Magadan section of the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic (RSFSR) Arts Foundation from 1963 to 1966. During this time, he painted "Mammoth Tusks."
