Oswald Grill (1878-1964) studied at the arts college of Vienna and at the Art Academy in Munich. He started his career as an independent artist in 1906 and returned to Vienna where he became a member of the Vienna Künstlerhaus in 1908, serving as president from 1917 until 1938. In 1929, Grill was called to the university as professor and he received numerous awards during his lifetime.
