Peter Breuer was a trained stonemason and studied from 1874 in Munich and Berlin, with Fritz Schaper. Since 1896 he taught at the Academy in Berlin, where he was one of the pioneers of modernism in the Berlin School of Sculpture - Rudolf Belling was one of his students.
