Roger Cecil was born in 1942 in the United Kingdom. The artist has been described as one of the great abstract artists of his generation, yet in his lifetime he was hardly known outside his circle of fellow painters. The artist was born in Abertillery, South Wales and died in Cwmbran. He was content to paint for himself protecting his privacy and exhibiting rarely, if he did show his work collectors rushed to acquire it. Among curators he was a legendary figure. The artist has been described as one of the great abstract artists of his generation, yet in his lifetime he was hardly known outside his circle of fellow painters. The artist was born in Abertillery, South Wales and died in Cwmbran. He was content to paint for himself protecting his privacy and exhibiting rarely, if he did show his work collectors rushed to acquire it. Among curators he was a legendary figure. He lived simply and worked as a casual labourer, open cast miner and art tutor whilst producing work of extraordinary beauty and sophistication, after his parents deaths the whole house became his studio.
