Roland Chanconnier, dit Chanco, was born in 1914 in Indre -and-Loire. In 1930, he moved to Paris where he then frequented artists from the Butte: Utrillo, Gen Paul, Picasso . His pictorial research at the time led him to a new style, his "black period", where he stages characters on a black background or in dark colors. During the 1950s, the artist became interested in abstract art and enhanced his paintings with collages and various materials.
