At the age of 15, he was apprenticed to a decorative painter for three years, then studied art in Bonn, Berlin and Paris before immigrating to the United States in 1892. After his arrival in New York City, he created decorative paintings and murals for private homes and public buildings in the New York area and as far west as Chicago and San Francisco. For many years Mueller's work could be viewed at two New York .
