Salvatore Fergola was from Naples and lived from 1799 to 1874. After studying literature and architecture, he devoted himself to painting, specializing in landscape painting. His clients included the future king of the Two Sicilies, Francis I. In 1827 he became professor of the Academy of Fine Arts in Naples and, three years later, he was appointed court painter.
