Siri was born in Stockholm in 1888 as one of seven children to the merchant Carl Edward Johansson Derkert and Emma Charlotta Valborg. Siri was educated at Althin art school in Stockholm in 1904 and at the Academy of Art 1911-1913. Subsequently, she studied art in Paris at the Académie Colarossi and the Académie de la Grande Chaumiere with Ninnan Santesson and Lisa Bergstrand (Bergstrand-Paulsson) until the outbreak of World War autumn of 1914.
