He also studied at the Pädagogische Hochschule in Alfeld and at the Werkkunstschule in Hanover from 1961-64. Behl worked as a school teacher and as a lecturer in art education at the Pädagogische Hochschule Kiel. From 1980, Stahl developed covered paper objects, which form an extensive part of his oeuvre, participated in the Venice Biennale in 1995.
