Victor Fontaine was born in Saarlouis in 1923. Fontaine studied with Paul Dierkes and Bontjes van Beek in Prague, and with Boris Kleint and Anneliese Braunmüller at the Staatliche School of Arts and Crafts Saarbrücken. In 1974 Victor Fontaine was a founding member of the artist group Untere Saar.
