His meticulous technique involves shaving layers off the surface of his paintings with a razor to create a lustrous surface that is not varnished. William Beckman was elected an Associate of the National Academy of Design, New York City, in 1992, and Academician in 1994. He has been a visiting artist at Towson University, Towson, Maryland.
