He created some of the most memorable comic strip characters of the 1920s and 1930s, including Barney Google, Bunky, Snuffy Smith, and the racehorse Spark Plug. William Morgan DeBeck was born and raised in Chicago, where he studied at the citys Academy of Fine Arts. Among his fellow students were Frank Willard, Ralph B. Fuller, and Frank King.
