He studied at the Art Institute of Chicago prior to enlisting in the United States Marine Corp in 1942. He served as a gunner on the U.S.S. Enterprise with H. C. He studied at the Art Institute of Chicago prior to enlisting in the United States Marine Corp in 1942. He served as a gunner on the U.S.S. Enterprise with H. C. Westermann, and was influential in Westermann later coming to Chicago to the Art Institute. After discharge from the Marines, Mlodoch studied with Boardman Robinson in Colorado Springs before returning to Chicago. A figural painter, he was friends with members of the Monster Roster, particularly Cosmo Campoli, but his best friend was Claude Bentley, the abstractionist.
