A native of Guangzhou, Yang Zhiguang began his study of painting with Gao Jianfu and later went to Beijing to study at the Central Academy with Xu Beihong and Ye Qianyu, graduating in 1953. As a practitioner of the Socialist Realist approach to traditional Chinese painting, the artist infuses anatomical accuracy while still embracing the aesthetic of brush and ink.
