Adolf Heinrich Lier is among the most important Pleinair landscape painters of the Munich School. He was particularly influenced by his teacher Richard Zimmermann at the academy of fine arts in Munich as well as the French Barbizon School, which he became acquainted with during a study visit in 1861. However the landscapes of Bavaria, around the Chiemsee and Lake Starnberg, in particular inspired him to paint many of his works. Later Lier founded his own school for landscape painting....
