He trained under the tutelage of masters Chen Wen His and Cheong Soo Pieng, Goh then furthered his training in oil painting at the Arts Student"s League of New York (1962-66). He trained under the tutelage of masters Chen Wen His and Cheong Soo Pieng, Goh then furthered his training in oil painting at the Arts Student"s League of New York (1962-66). It was then that he began to experiment with the concept of abstract expressionism, integrating the principles of Chinese ink painting and calligraphic brush strokes with abstract art. In 1989, Goh was awarded the Cultural Medallion for his contributions to the Visual Arts scene in Singapore.
