Abby Shahn, New York, Maine, born 1940.

Born and raised in New York City, her father was social realist artist Ben Shahn and mother was artist Bernarda Shahn. She began her career in New York, attending the Art Students League, the Pratt Graphics Center, the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture, the California School of Fine Art in San Francisco and Reed College in Portland, Oregon.

In 1969, she moved to Maine where she has been one of the state’s most important and celebrated artists.
