About Achille Perilli

  • Biography

Achille Perilli (Rome, 1927-2021) was an Italian painter whose work can be divided into three major periods. He began his career with the Forma 1 Group, rejecting realism in favor of abstraction. In the 1960s, he developed the Pop Art-inspired "comics" series, which brought him international fame and a dedicated room at the 1962 Venice Biennale. He was also a co-founder of the "Gruppo Arte Sociale" and the "Age d'Or" Library-Gallery. In 2018, the Hermitage in St. Petersburg dedicated a major retrospective to his contribution to Italian abstract art.
