    Adolf Chwala (1836-1900), studied from 1851 at the Prague Academy, 1854/55 in thelandscape painting class with Maximilian Joseph Haushofer. Based in Vienna from 1864, Chwala was one of the most respected Czech-Austrian landscape painters of his generation.

    From 1876 he was represented at the exhibitions at the Vienna Künstlerhaus, from 1881-1896 at the Austrian Art Association. A large exhibition of works in 2011 in the Prague National Gallery led to a rediscovery of Chwala and a significant increase in importance on the art market
