    Clary-Baroux began his artistic career as a theatre designer, but says he was enticed into the world of fine art by the powerful colouring of Sisley. He was naturally highly influenced by this master of Impressionism in his early career but later became more interested in the complex pictorial conception of Pissarro. In his later works the highly convincing rhythm of the paint brush deliberately conceals his rudimentary preparatory drawing.

    Clary-Baroux is best known as an innovative colourist, believing that drawing should be secondary. His work can certainly be classified as Post-Impressionist.
