    Alan Stenhouse Gourley was born in 1909, in Ayr, Scotland. In 1928, Alan attended the Glasgow School of Art. From 1929-1931, he was a student at the Edinburgh College of Art, where he was taught by the renowned Scottish landscape and still life painter, William Gillies. Between 1932 and 1937, Alan Gourley lived and taught in South Africa at the Johannesburg Technical College. He then moved to Paris to study at the Ecole des Beax-Arts. During WW II, Alan was an instructor for camouflage. In 1945, he moved to London to study at the Slade under Randolph Schwabe. The Mall Gallery in London was the predominant location for Alan's exhibitions. He was elected as President of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters. His work is represent ...
