    Albert Durer Lucas was born in 1828. The artist was the son of the sculptor Richard Cockle Lucas. The family moved to Chilworth, near Romsey, Hants from Salisbury in the 1850's. A frequent exhibitor in London, he showed thirty seven pictures in the metropolis over the period from 1859-1878, specialising in small still lifes executed in a naturalistic manner. Albert worked from a studio at their house Chilworth Towers for over half a century. His works characterised by his meticulous detailed style, executed in a pre-Raphaelite manner. Lucas exhibited widely, frequently in London, and also more locally at exhibitions with the Southampton Art Society. In 1880 he won a gold medal at an International exhibition held at M...
