    Albert De Meuron was born in 1823. He was from a Neuchâtel artist dynasty and studied for four years, beginning in 1841, with the history painter Hermann Stilke and Carl Sohn in Dusseldorf. De Meuron then continued his education as a student of Charles Gleyre in Paris. In 1848 Albert De Meuron exhibited for the first time at the Paris Salon. The artist often spent the summer months on Lake Brienz, where the brothers Karl and Edouard Girardet and Benjamin Vautier were also active. His friends included Léon Berthoud, Albert Anker and Pierre de Salis, whom he met during his regular stays in Paris.
