    As a young interior designer, Albert Haberer discovered abstract painting and in 1933, through his wife Martha Häcker, who was friends with a niece of Oskar Schlemmer , he met Ida Kerkovius . He became Kerkovius's student in 1934 and remained friends with her until her death in 1970. Kerkovius was a former student of Adolf Hölzel , who, as early as 1912, simultaneously with and independently of Kandinsky , began to move away from representational painting towards abstraction, a development that also fascinated Haberer and shaped his entire oeuvre.
