    A native from Valencia, the painter Alberto Plá y Rubio (1867-1937) studied at the Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando in Madrid. Besides, he was also trained at the studio of Ignacio Pinazo (1849-1916). His slightly impressionist genre scenes and landscapes soon became highly sought-after collectible items, as proven by numerous awards and medals of Salon exhibitions in Barcelona, Munich and Paris.

    In the last years of his artistic activity Alberto Plá y Rubio was mainly active as an academy professor in Cádiz and Valencia, as well as at the Lonja de Barcelona. His paintings were mainly focused on social issues in society.
