    Aleksander Gierymski, a Polish painter, was the younger brother of Maxymilian Gierymski. He began his education at the Warsaw's Drawing Class then moved to Munich in 1868 for further studies. His graduation work "A scene from the Venice Merchant" was awarded in 1872.

    Despite being settled in Rome from 1873-1879, he became highly famed in Warsaw. After his return to Warsaw in 1879, he painted various scenic pieces and made illustrations for magazines. In his late years he took many trips to Munich, Paris, Cracow and Rome.
