About Alexander Bredael

  • Biography

Born in the Flanders region of Antwerp, painter Alexander van Bredael was part of a prominent family of painters. His father, a well-known artist specialized in the imortalization of fairgrounds and village holidays, was an adept of Italian idealized landscapes. His mother, Anna Maria Veldener, was the daughter of the sculptor Jenjin Veldender. His two brothers, Jan Peeter the Elder and Joris, were also noted as painters.

The apprenticeship is carried out under the teachings of his father, who will discover the first mysteries of the native landscape. In 1685 Alexander began his career as a professor at the St. Luke Association, a group of painters and artists from the early age of Modern Modernism, present in the Netherlands.
