Aleksandr Vasilievich Kuprin, Alexander Kuprin
  • Biography

Alexander Kuprin was a Russian artist who was part of the Jack of Diamonds group in the 1920s and 1930s. He participated in every exhibition of the group and impressed viewers with his expressive and colorful paintings. However, in the early 1930s, persecution against formalistic painting led to a change in Kuprin's style. He shifted towards classic landscape realism, with peaceful colors and calibrated compositions. His later works had a gauzy, romantic air and created an atmosphere of lyricism. The present lot, "Peski. Landscape with a Boat and Female Figure," is an example of this style.
