About Alexis Vollon

    Alexis Vollon studied under his father, Antoine Vollon. From 1885, he exhibited in Paris at the Salon des Artistes Français, and was an hors concours member of this group, and a member of the Committee and Panel of Judges. He achieved an honourable mention in 1885, was awarded a third-class medal in 1888, a second-class in 1889, and a silver medal at the Exposition Universelle in 1900. He was made Chevalier of the Légion d’Honneur in 1900.

    Vollon deserved greater public recognition. He worked at the time of the Impressionists, and his subject matter was similar to that School. His landscapes, notably those of the Seine in Paris: The Seine at the Pont des Sts-Pères and The Seine at the Pont Alexandre III have an indisputable atmospher...
