    Alfred Haushofer (1872-1943

    The son of the historian Max Haushofer (1840-1907), the co-editor of 'Künstlerchronik Frauenchiemsee', lived on Lake Chiemsee from 1907 onwards, where he was one of the founders of the artist group 'Die Frauenwörther'. Their first exhibition took place on the Fraueninsel in 1921. Haushofer continued to exhibit here on a regular basis. The artist was a contributor of the magazines 'Jugend' and 'Fliegende Blätter'. His oeuvre is defined by depictions of Lake Chiemsee, in particular the Fraueninsel seen from various point of view, echoing the tradition of the Impressionists.
