    Born in Greeenridge, Missouri, Alice Beach Winter was a painter, sculptor, and illustrator and was especially known for her child portraits and illustration genre for children's magazines. She was raised in St. Louis and was a student for six years at the St. Louis School of Fine Art, where she received high honors. She also studied for one year at the Art Students League in New York with John Twachtman, Joseph DeCamp, and George deForest Brush.

    Exhibition venues included the Pennsylvania Academy, St. Louis Exposition of 1897, the Carnegie Institute, and National Association of Women Artists.

    Her husband was the artist Charles Allan Winter, whom she married in 1904, and the couple spent much time at Gloucester, Massachusetts ...
