    Anders Christian Lunde was a Danish landscape and portrait painter who was trained at the Copenhagen Academy. He debuted as a portraitist in 1834 and later specialized in depicting southern Italian landscapes.

    Lunde lived and worked in Rome between 1842-1847, and probably captured the barren piece of nature in this artwork on a hike through southern Italy.

    His paintings can be found in the Statens Museum for Kunst and the Thorvaldsen Museum in Copenhagen.
