    André Claudot was a French artist born in Dijon in 1882. He began his artistic career at the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Dijon, but left due to its academic nature and moved to Paris. He became involved in far-left political activism and drew for newspapers such as Le Libertaire and La revue anarchiste. Claudot exhibited in Parisian Salons and joined the Groupe Clergé of artists from Montparnasse. In 1926, he left for China to teach at the National Institute of Arts in Beijing, but was forced to leave due to his innovative teaching methods and anti-militarist views. He taught at the Hangzhou Art Institute before returning to France, where he was appointed professor at the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Dijon and founded a painting school. Claudot died...
