    André Hennebicq was a Belgian painter, specializing in historical paintings and murals. He trained with Joseph Stallaert in Tournai, his hometown, and with Jan Frans Portaels at the Académie Royale des Beaux-Arts in Brussels. Hennebicq won the Prix de Rome (Belgium) in 1865; the gold medal in Brussels in 1872 (for Workers in the Roman countryside) and in Paris in 1874 (for Messaline, insulted by the people).
