Anna Billing was born in 1849, in Sweden. Her father was the artist Tore Billing and her mother, Elma Power, was a famous opera singer who was appointed as the successor to Jenny Lind. Anna grew up in an artist's home where a large number of the most prominent cultural personalities of the day spent time. Anna Billing was a student of her father as well as Johan Christoffer Flourish, August Malmström, and Kerstin Cardon. On a study trip to Paris, she was also a student of the flower painter Georges Jeannin. While in France, she exhibited at the Paris Salon in 1884.
