    Anton Hlavacek was an Austrian painter and writer born in Vienna-Gaudenzdorf in 1842. He began his career as a parlor painter in 1856, but also pursued self-taught artistic creation. From 1859 to 1864, he studied at the Vienna Academy with Franz Steinfeld and Albert Zimmermann, and traveled with Zimmermann to various locations in Germany, Italy, and Austria. In 1864, he received a state scholarship for a study trip through Germany and stayed in Cologne and Worms. Hlavacek was a member of the Vienna Künstlerhaus from 1862 to 1873 and a founding member of the Österreichischer Künstlerbund in 1906.
