    Arthur Fortescue McKay (1926 – 2000)

    An important Canadian painter, draftsman, printmaker and an influential educator, Art McKay (aka: Arthur McKay; aka: Arthur Fortescue McKay) was born in Nipawin, Saskatchewan; worked most of his life in Regina, Saskatchewan (1950 – 1994); and died in Squamish, British Columbia, Canada (near Vancouver) where he had lived since 1994.

    He first gained national recognition exhibiting as a member of the group of artists known as The Regina Five (c.1959 – 1966). His work and theirs is considered a milestone in the development of abstract art in Canada.
