    Arthur Turnbull Hill (1868-1929)

    Arthur Turnbull Hill was active/lived in New York. He is known for coastal landscape, allegory painting, and camouflage.He was born in New York City on April 26, 1868. His father was a dentist, but he was also actively interested in the arts. He wrote poetry and acted in plays, and was also a close friend of the painter George Inness, with whom Arthur later studied art. Arthur also studied briefly at the Brooklyn Institute. Initially, he sought a business career with his uncle’s wholesale tea and coffee firm, John G. Turnbull & Company. His paintings were landscapes and seascapes, as well as occasional portraits.
