About Arturo Estrada

  • Biography

1957 was a very productive year for Arturo Estrada. In addition to painting the mural "Nuevo Laredo de Ayer y Hoy" in Nuevo Laredo, he was awarded the annual prize of the William and Noma Copley Foundation. The award was given by Marcel Duchamp during his visit to Mexico, and having received that great honor, Estrada decided to travel to Paris as a guest of art promoter William Copley and his wife Noma. During his stay he lived with painters like Max Ernst and Roberto Matta, an experience that left him a great artistic influence; In spite of it, his plastic language always inclined to the principles of the muralism.
