    Aston Wyatt Greathead, born in 1921 in Napier, New Zealand, was a self-taught artist known for his watercolour and oil acrylic paintings. He developed his artistic talent from an early age and gained recognition for his work during the Second World War while serving in the New Zealand Army. After the war, he set up a signwriting business in Christchurch but later moved to Kaikoura with his family, where he focused on his art career. Greathead's favorite subjects included Mount Cook, and he gained fame after winning the Dawson Hallmark watercolour award in 1966. He was known for painting on location and preferred oil acrylics over watercolours.
